Commission launches public consultation on Digital Services Act

The consultation collects views from stakeholders to shape the future regulatory framework for digital services and online platforms. One part of this exercise is a review of the e-commerce directive, including the liability regime, which has been in place since 2001. The other part addresses competition, in particular the role of online platforms as “gatekeepers” and resulting market imbalances.  The consultation revolves around six pillars:

  1. Users’ safety online
  2. Review of the liability regime of digital services acting as intermediaries
  3. Gatekeeper power of digital platforms
  4. Emerging issues, including online advertising and smart contracts
  5. Platform workers
  6. Completing the single market for digital services

The deadline for submitting feedback is 8 September. EACA will coordinate a joint submission with its members.
