EACA co-signs industry letter: new impact assessment of ePrivacy regulation needed

“New impact assessment is necessary … to fully grasp the impact the text will have on all sector of the economy” proclaim 11 organisations in a joint letter addressed at the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

As one of the signatories, EACA echoes the need to re-assess the alignment between the ePrivacy regulation and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and to take into account new technologies, competition issues and definitions determined recently in the European Electronic Communications Code.

After the entry into force of the GDPR last year, the ePrivacy Regulation is designed to particularise and complement the EU data protection rules further by setting up specific rules concerning data confidentiality in the electronic communications sector. It has been negotiated in the Council for nearly two years.
