EACA co-signs industry letter: Support for the rights of publishers & other ad-funded online services needed in the ePrivacy Regulation

“We are strongly opposed to the adoption of a General Approach unless it features strong, unequivocal support for the right of publishers and other ad-funded online services”, states EACA together with five other trade associations in a letter addressed to the EU member state delegations.

The signatories of the letter call the members of the Council Working Party in charge of the ePrivacy Regulation to re-think their tentative positions and consider new amendments.

The current text of Article 8(1) and Recitals 20-20(a) risk interrupting the funding of publishers’ and other services’ free online services and encourages the gatekeeper role of browsers and other software enabling access to the Internet.
