The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA), in collaboration with the Conscious Advertising Network (CAN) and the 5Rights Foundation, will take part in an Irish Presidency Breakfast on Protecting Children Online, hosted by MEP Nina Carberry at the European Parliament.
Protecting children in the digital environment is one of the most important challenges facing policymakers, industry and society. As children spend an increasing part of their lives online, ensuring that they can benefit from digital services while being protected from harmful content, inappropriate commercial practices and other online risks requires both an effective regulatory framework and meaningful action from industry.
Against the backdrop of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, this breakfast will bring together policymakers, experts in child safety, communications specialists, and civil society for a constructive discussion on how we can better protect children online while supporting a responsible digital communications ecosystem. Together, we will explore practical approaches to strengthening the protection of minors online, the respective roles of policymakers, platforms, communication agencies, brands and other actors in the digital ecosystem, and how industry initiatives can complement Europe’s wider public-interest objectives.
The discussion will also provide an opportunity to present EACA’s Childhood Redrawn initiative and highlight practical steps the communications sector can take to contribute to a safer and more responsible digital environment for children.
Further details, including the speakers and programme, will be shared closer to the date.
BY INVITATION ONLY. If you an EACA member and would like to receive an invitation, please email: elena.wind@eaca.eu
